想不到的時間：科幻小說中的時間旅行（第4/4頁）

威爾斯在《新加速劑》[40]中探討了利用科學手段操縱時間的另一種方式——加速時間，人物體驗幾個小時的時間，整個外界卻幾乎靜止。這一觀念在後續作品中反復出現，如埃德蒙·漢密爾頓的《進化的人》[41]，講述一件能迅速增進人類進化的裝置，將一名科學家變成腦袋碩大的未來人類；電視劇《外星界限》中的《第六指》一集偷用了漢密爾頓的故事。克拉克所著《塵世中的分分秒秒》[42]中，一個盜賊通過加速時間，不費吹灰之力盜搶了大英博物館，卻悲哀地發現自己的世界已在劫難逃。《星際迷航》中的一集《眨眼間》設想一整個外星種族都處於加速的時間之中——這個場景又在《星際迷航：航海家號》的《轉眼間》一集重現。

也有的故事采用了“近光速航行時，時間流逝更慢”這一基於愛因斯坦相對論推演出的理論，正如安德森筆下《宇宙過河卒》[43]裏的時空旅行者，他們所經歷的幾分鐘內，外界已過去了數十億年。電影《星際穿越》也提出了類似假設：在靠近黑洞強大重力場的星球上，時間會慢下來。《外星界限》的《對照實驗》這一集中，火星人動用的“時間凝聚器”可以在特定區域內加速、減緩，乃至反逆時間，以此輔助調查人類嗜殺的特性。類似的減緩時間的設備也曾在披頭士主演的電影《救命！》中出現。

雖然諸多科幻故事對各種形式的時間旅行進行了大量的探索，但最終進入當今流行文化並成為其重要組成部分的，仍是由狄更斯、貝拉米、吐溫、威爾斯所開創的“傳統”時間旅行，這從《回到未來》和《熱浴盆時光機》等電影受歡迎的程度即可見一斑，這些影片已將時間旅行的機制及其可能導致的悖論作為了常識對待。盡管科學研究仍舊難以打破壁壘，真正的時間旅行或許永遠無法企及，但它仍將是幻想故事和影片中一個長盛不衰的主題。
