隸屬於（中國遠征軍）第53軍美國聯絡組總部的丹尼爾·邁克考中士（來自德克薩斯州）負責安排將美軍人員提供的M-1型鋼盔分發給向騰沖發起沖鋒的中國士兵們。美軍聯絡官兵們非常願意先讓出自己的裝備幫助中國友軍的沖鋒部隊，因為從附近軍備倉庫調取裝備可能會延誤戰事。這些鋼盔將優先分配給肩扛火焰噴射器、無後坐力平射炮以及其他攻擊性火器的沖鋒在前的中國士兵。

S/Sgt.Daniel W.McCall,Lufkin,Texas,of53rd Army's American liaison group headquarters,was in charge of G.I.s contribution of M-1steel helmets to Chinese units assaulting Tengchung's heavily fortified Jap positions.American liaison officers and enlisted men were glad to help out their Chinese Ally instead of delaying the offensive to wait for helmets ordered from near supply depots.These helmets were given Chinese troops carrying flame-throwers,bazookas,and other assault weapons.
