在1945年7月30日，中國29軍169師和預備11師在日軍撤退後光復桂林。雖然傷亡較輕，但是日本人在撤退前進行了全面的破壞。如照片所示，政府宣傳隊在城中貼滿了譴責日本的標語，碉堡亦隨處可見。

Chinese Troops of the169th Div.and the11th Res.Div.,29th Chinese Army reoccupied Kweilin as the Japanese withdrew.The casualties were light but before retiring the Japs completed asystematic program of destruction.Political service personnel put signs on ever(y)bit of available space denouncing the Japs,as shown in this picture,and pill boxes were widely used.
