美軍14航空隊參謀長阿爾伯特·赫根博格（左）準將和副總指揮上校克拉倫斯·塔爾博特，分別進入了在昆明的聖特雷莎大教堂參加為紀念14航空隊所舉行的安魂彌撒。當軍官們到達彌撒現場時，中美聯合儀仗隊舉槍致敬。從1942年4月4日起，陳納德將軍的美國航天志願隊，或稱“飛虎隊”，成為中國空中特遣部隊。這支部隊陸續殲滅了2194架日軍飛機和409艘輪船。在1943年3月10日，這支部隊被改編為美國第十四航空隊。
